Episode 1: Roti Prata & Where Animals hang-out?

We start this podcast on Inside Singapore with a 2.30am supper at Jalan Kayu’s Thasevi Prata place. Other commendable Roti Prata places mentioned in the show are: Abang’s Cheese Prata (at Clementi Road, outside NUS), and Casuarina Road (can’t remember the name of the place).

Ken and Helen give a sound-seeing tour along Jalan Kayu before reaching the car and introducing the Singapore Zoological Gardens found at Mandai. Take a train to deserted Kranji Station and try to flag a taxi to the zoo. It's the most hassle-free way to getting there.

The word "Jalan" means "street" in Malay.

Other stuff you heard on the show...
Deepavali: "Festival of Lights" celebrated by the Hindus in Singapore

Hari Raya Puasa: "Muslim New Year" celebrated by the Muslims which marks the end of their 1-month fast period

Kosong Prata: Baked dough (an Indian cuisine taken with sugar or curry) ... DELICIOUS!!!

Cheese Prata: Same as above, but with mozarella cheese in it. It's a Singaporean concoction.

Teh-Tarik: Milk tea that's stirred and shaken - Indian-style. It's done with 2 cups, and the tea is transferred from cup to cup in mid-air. In itself, a great display of skill.

Teh-Peng: Same as above, but with ice.

Hiah, feeling burnt out at wk so here u go-a write up on my fave prata hunts. (with one caution: if u n Helen wanna podcast all these u’ll becoming damn fat on prata but Helen wil b jus fine)

Prata house beside Holy Spirit church at upper Thomson
Best most tasty dough, small thick n crispy. At night u can almost expect not to find a space even tho the tables spill over to the left all e way into the stand chart territory and on the right all over the closed guardian after hrs.

N e uncles there r amazing. They can rem ur face n wat u ordered. E drinks there nothing fantastic but fd is fab

Sgoon gdns prata shop beside 711. Best teh halia. Spicy and shiok. Prata dough also damn tasty. But it’s ex.

Zam zam at arab st
First air conned prata shop I know. Fd is nt bad

e stretch outside Philips ave.
4 prata shops in competition! Athira is looking up to e competition. With uniform green tables n purple chairs and a lighted sign board. I do hope their toilets are much cleaner now tho. My old lao di fang whn an ex bf used to stay in gdns area. Now Thomson prata hse is new fave haunt for obvious reasons thus topping the charts.

Don’t go to e shop with yellow sign board on that stretch. It’s super ex for prata. N they also ve an airconned section.

The end~

Cheers!
Amelia
